Question 1

What this section covers

This test maps to the Right-of-way rules section of the Michigan driver handbook. Right-of-way questions are the most-missed on nearly every state exam, because the rules are about who must YIELD — never about who is entitled to go. Read every question as 'who has to give way here?'

Teens take the knowledge test through their driving school during Segment 1 of driver education, not at a Secretary of State office. Adults 18 and over take it at an SOS branch or online. Confirm with Michigan Secretary of State before you go in.

Common questions

How many questions about right-of-way are on the real test?

Michigan Secretary of State doesn't publish a per-section breakdown, and it varies between exam forms. What's consistent is that signs and right-of-way carry the most weight on every state's exam — so if you're short on time, those are the two sections to over-prepare.

Do I have to get these exactly right on the real exam?

The exam samples from the whole handbook, so no single section decides it. Check the current passing score with Michigan Secretary of State.

Can I retake this practice test?

As many times as you like, free. Your progress saves automatically, so you can stop partway and come back to the same question later.
