Road signs
Signs are standardized federally, so they read the same from a motorcycle as from a car — and they do appear on motorcycle tests. New York, for instance, requires you to get at least 2 of its 4 sign questions right on top of your overall score. Practise them on the road signs page; the paid simulated exam includes sign questions for the same reason.
Common questions
Are these the real motorcycle test questions?
No, and be suspicious of anyone who says theirs are. State question banks are confidential. These are original questions written from the state Motorcycle Operator Manuals — which is where the real test comes from anyway.
Do I need a separate motorcycle written test?
In most states yes, but not all. Florida does not give one at all — it requires the Basic RiderCourse instead — and Texas waives it for anyone who completes the mandatory safety course. Each state page says exactly what that state does.
Why don't you show a question count for my state?
Because most states do not publish one. Only California (80% passing, no count) and New York (14 of 20, plus at least 2 of 4 sign questions) publish anything about the motorcycle test's format. Rather than repeat the confident numbers on other practice sites, we say what the agency actually states.
Is the motorcycle test the same as the car test?
No. It covers different material — countersteering, lane position, traction on surfaces a car ignores, carrying a passenger. None of these questions are car questions with the wording changed.
Do road signs appear on the motorcycle test?
Yes. New York requires at least 2 of 4 sign questions specifically, and signs are federally standardized so they are identical from a motorcycle. Sign practice lives on the main road signs page and the paid simulated exam includes sign questions.
