Question 1

What this section covers

This test maps to the Traffic control devices section of the California driver handbook. The line colors carry a rule most drivers never consciously learn: yellow separates opposing traffic, white separates same-direction traffic. Once that clicks, most marking questions answer themselves.

California DMV publishes the passing score as 80%, with 3 attempts before you must reapply. Confirm with California DMV before you go in.

Common questions

How many questions about signals & road markings are on the real test?

California DMV doesn't publish a per-section breakdown, and it varies between exam forms. What's consistent is that signs and right-of-way carry the most weight on every state's exam — so if you're short on time, those are the two sections to over-prepare.

Do I have to get these exactly right on the real exam?

The exam samples from the whole handbook, so no single section decides it — but you can't offset a weak section forever. California DMV requires 80% overall.

Can I retake this practice test?

As many times as you like, free. Your progress saves automatically, so you can stop partway and come back to the same question later.
