Common questions
My state isn't listed. Is this still useful?
Yes, for the shared material — which is most of what any state exam covers. Sign shapes and colours are set by the federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, which every state adopts, and the core rules of the road are broadly the same everywhere. What we don't have for your state yet is its own speed limits, curb colours, phone law and penalties — for those, go to your state's official handbook.
How do I know these answers are right for my state?
Because we removed the ones that aren't. 4 questions whose correct answer genuinely differs between states — hydrant clearance, curb colours, cyclist passing distance, and the right-on-red default in New York City — are deliberately excluded from this page. They appear only on the state pages where we know the local rule. We would rather give you 69 answers you can trust than 73 you cannot.
What percentage of my exam does this cover?
We won't give you a number, because no state publishes a breakdown of how much of its exam is shared material versus local law. Anyone quoting you a percentage made it up. What we can tell you honestly: signs are federally standardized, the rules of the road are largely common, and speed limits and penalties are not.
When will you add my state?
We add states based on what people ask for. Tell us which one — it genuinely drives the order.
Are these the real exam questions?
No. State question banks are confidential and not public. These are original questions written from published rules of the road, which is the same material the exams are drawn from.
