Question 1

What this section covers

This test maps to the Traffic signs section of the Pennsylvania driver handbook. Sign shapes and colors are standardized nationally, so this knowledge transfers to any state. Learn the shapes first — you can identify an octagon or a pentagon from behind, in the dark, or under snow, which is exactly the point of standardizing them.

The Pennsylvania knowledge test is 18 questions, and you need 15 correct to pass.

Common questions

How many questions about road signs are on the real test?

PennDOT doesn't publish a per-section breakdown, and it varies between exam forms. What's consistent is that signs and right-of-way carry the most weight on every state's exam — so if you're short on time, those are the two sections to over-prepare.

Do I have to get these exactly right on the real exam?

The exam samples from the whole handbook, so no single section decides it — but you can't offset a weak section forever. You may miss 3 questions in total on the Pennsylvania exam.

Can I retake this practice test?

As many times as you like, free. Your progress saves automatically, so you can stop partway and come back to the same question later.
